The Web Publishing feature in Netscape Enterprise Server 3.x and iPlanet Web Server 4.x allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a wp-html-rend request.
The weakness was published 12/31/2002 by Richard Brain with ProCheckUp as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1655 since 03/29/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86303 (Netscape Enterprise Server Web Publisher Denial of Service Vulnerability).
