The browser history feature in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 through 6.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script as other users and steal authentication information via cookies by injecting JavaScript into the URL, which is executed when the user hits the Back button.
The issue has been introduced in 07/08/2000. The weakness was presented 12/31/2002 by Andreas Sandblad as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1688 since 06/21/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
