Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 through 6.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via an object of type "text/html" with the DATA field that identifies the HTML document that contains the object, which may cause infinite recursion.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2002 by Matthew Murphy as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1714 since 06/21/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
