A vulnerability was found in Microsoft TSAC Activex Control (version now known). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file connect.asp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in connect.asp in Microsoft Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) ActiveX control allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via unknown vectors.
The bug was discovered 10/11/2002. The weakness was presented 12/31/2002 by Arai as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1795 since 06/29/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 81 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:connect.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10836 (Microsoft TSAC ActiveX Control Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability (MS02-046)).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
