A vulnerability was found in ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm 3.0/3.1 (Firewall Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component SYN Packet Handler. ZoneAlarm Pro 3.0 and 3.1, when configured to block all traffic, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via a large number of SYN packets (SYN flood). NOTE: the vendor was not able to reproduce the issue.
The weakness was presented 12/31/2002 by Lincoln (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1911 since 06/29/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.
