SnortCenter 0.9.5, when configured to push Snort rules, stores the rules in a temporary file with world-readable and world-writable permissions, which allows local users to obtain usernames and passwords for the alert database servers.
The bug was discovered 11/05/2002. The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1970 since 06/29/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
