A vulnerability was found in Macromedia ColdFusion on IIS (version now known) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing in the library jrun.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Buffer overflow in jrun.dll in ColdFusion MX, when used with IIS 4 or 5, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service in IIS via (1) a long template file name or (2) a long HTTP header.
The weakness was shared 12/31/2002 by Riley Hassell (DiGiT) with eEye Digital Security (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1992 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
