A vulnerability has been found in SAS Integration Technologies 8.0 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component sastcpd/objspawn. The manipulation of the argument netencralg as part of a Environment Variable leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
sastcpd in SAS/Base 8.0 might allow local users to gain privileges by setting the netencralg environment variable, which causes a segmentation fault.
The weakness was published 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sas.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-2018 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy.
