A vulnerability was found in QNX RTOS 4.25/6.1.0 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file phrafx/phgrafx-startup. The (1) phrafx and (2) phgrafx-startup programs in QNX realtime operating system (RTOS) 4.25 and 6.1.0 do not properly drop privileges before executing the system command, which allows local users to execute arbitrary commands by modifying the PATH environment variable to reference a malicious crttrap program.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is available at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-2040 since 07/14/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
