A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Site Server 3.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file default.asp/formslogin.asp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the default ASP pages on Microsoft Site Server 3.0 on Windows NT 4.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) ctr parameter in Default.asp and (2) the query string to formslogin.asp.
The weakness was published 12/31/2002 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-2073 since 07/14/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
