A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Floosietek FTGate 1.05. Affected is an unknown part of the component SMTP Session Handler. The manipulation of the argument RCPT TO with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Floositek FTGate PRO 1.05 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory and CPU consumption) via a large number of RCPT TO: messages during an SMTP session.
The bug was discovered 04/03/2002. The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-2080 since 07/14/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
