Matt Wright FormMail 1.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to bypass the HTTP_REFERER check and conduct unauthorized activities via (1) a blank referer, (2) a spoofed referer with a trusted domain/URL after the beginning of the referer, or (3) a spoofed referer with a trusted domain/URL in the beginning (hostname) portion of the referer.
The bug was discovered 01/23/2002. The weakness was released 12/31/2002 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-2109 since 08/05/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
