A vulnerability was found in AIDE up to 0.7 on FreeBSD and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file aide.conf. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authentication spoofing vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-290. The default aide.conf file in Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment (AIDE) before 0.7_1 on FreeBSD before 2002-08-28 does not properly check subdirectories, which could allow local users to bypass detection.
The weakness was released 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared at ftp.freebsd.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-2199 since 11/16/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
