A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Thunderbird up to 1.5 (Mail Client Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code block of the component Attachment Handler. GUI display truncation vulnerability in Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2, 1.0.6, and 1.0.7 allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via an attachment with a filename containing a large number of spaces ending with a dangerous extension that is not displayed by Thunderbird, along with an inconsistent Content-Type header, which could be used to trick a user into downloading dangerous content by dragging or saving the attachment.
The bug was discovered 07/01/2005. The weakness was released 01/17/2006 by Andreas Sandblad with Secunia Research und Microsoft (Website). The advisory is available at secunia.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-0236 since 01/18/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
