A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in PostgreSQL up to 7.2 (Database Software). Affected by this issue is the function cash_words. The manipulation with the input value -1 leads to a integer coercion vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-192. Integer coercion refers to a set of flaws pertaining to the type casting, extension, or truncation of primitive data types. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Vulnerability in the cash_words() function for PostgreSQL 7.2 and earlier allows local users to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a large negative argument, possibly triggering an integer signedness error or buffer overflow.
The weakness was published 01/17/2003 by Sir Mordred as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1397.
