A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in NullSoft WinAmp up to 5.12 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Playlist File Name Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in Nullsoft Winamp 5.12 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a playlist (pls) file with a long file name (File1 field).

The weakness was presented 01/30/2006 by ATmaCA with atmacasoft.com (Website). The advisory is available at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-0476 since 01/31/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
