CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in LBL Tcpdump 3.5.2/3.6.2/3.7/3.7.1 (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function isakmp_sub_print of the component ISAKMP Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

isakmp_sub_print in tcpdump 3.6 through 3.7.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a certain malformed ISAKMP packet to UDP port 500, which causes tcpdump to enter an infinite loop.

The weakness was disclosed 03/07/2003 by Andrew Griffiths as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.info. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-0108. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 13779 (SUSE-SA:2003:0015: tcpdump), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (11434), Exploit-DB (22294), Tenable (13779), SecurityFocus (BID 6974†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-15185†). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
