Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in OFFIS DCMTK up to 3.6.6. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component DICOM File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
OFFIS DCMTK's (All versions prior to 3.6.7) service class user (SCU) is vulnerable to relative path traversal, allowing an attacker to write DICOM files into arbitrary directories under controlled names. This could allow remote code execution.
The weakness was shared 06/25/2022 as icsma-22-174-01. It is possible to read the advisory at cisa.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-2120 since 06/17/2022.
