Details
A vulnerability was found in LDAP Account Manager up to 7.x (Directory Service Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file /lam/tmp/. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
LDAP Account Manager (LAM) is a webfrontend for managing entries (e.g. users, groups, DHCP settings) stored in an LDAP directory. In versions prior to 8.0 the tmp directory, which is accessible by /lam/tmp/, allows interpretation of .php (and .php5/.php4/.phpt/etc) files. An attacker capable of writing files under www-data privileges can write a web-shell into this directory, and gain a Code Execution on the host. This issue has been fixed in version 8.0. Users unable to upgrade should disallow executing PHP scripts in (/var/lib/ldap-account-manager/)tmp directory.
The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2022 as GHSA-q8g5-45m4-q95p. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-31087 since 05/18/2022. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 8.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f1d5d04952f39a1b4ea203d3964fa88e1429dfd4 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
