A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in MediaWiki up to 1.37.2/1.38.0 (Content Management System). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file Special:Contributions. The manipulation of the argument contributions-title with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. An issue was discovered in MediaWiki before 1.37.3 and 1.38.x before 1.38.1. The contributions-title, used on Special:Contributions, is used as page title without escaping. Hence, in a non-default configuration where a username contains HTML entities, it won't be escaped.
