Details
A vulnerability was found in mod_access_referer 1.0.2 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function ap_parse_uri_components of the component Referer Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
mod_access_referer 1.0.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a malformed Referer header that is missing a hostname, as parsed by the ap_parse_uri_components function in Apache, which triggers a null dereference.
The weakness was disclosed 04/16/2003 by zillion (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-1054 since 01/19/2005.
