A vulnerability was found in Leszek Krupinski L-Forum 2.4.0 (Forum Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component HTML Message Handler. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting vulnerability in L-Forum 2.40 and earlier, when the "Enable HTML in messages" option is on, allows remote attackers to insert arbitrary script or HTML via message fields including (1) From, (2) E-Mail, (3) Subject and (4) Body.

The bug was discovered 08/14/2002. The weakness was presented 06/09/2003 by Ulf Harnhammar (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1458. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 299 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
