The ISAPI extension in BadBlue 1.7 through 2.2, and possibly earlier versions, modifies the first two letters of a filename extension after performing a security check, which allows remote attackers to bypass authentication via a filename with a .ats extension instead of a .hts extension.
The bug was discovered 05/20/2003. The weakness was disclosed 06/09/2003 by mattmurphy (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-0332 since 05/20/2003. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely.
