Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (the affected version unknown). Affected is the function acrn_dev_ioctl of the file drivers/virt/acrn/hsm.c of the component ACRN Device Model. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
A memory leak flaw was found in the Linux kernel in acrn_dev_ioctl in the drivers/virt/acrn/hsm.c function in how the ACRN Device Model emulates virtual NICs in VM. This flaw allows a local privileged attacker to leak unauthorized kernel information, causing a denial of service.
The weakness was published 07/26/2022. The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-1651 since 05/10/2022. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org.
