Rizin up to 0.4.0 Binary get_long_object integer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability labeled as problematic has been found in Rizin up to 0.4.0. The impacted element is the function get_long_object of the component Binary Handler. Such manipulation leads to integer overflow. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-34612. There is no exploit available. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Rizin up to 0.4.0 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function get_long_object of the component Binary Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

Rizin v0.4.0 and below was discovered to contain an integer overflow via the function get_long_object(). This vulnerability allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via a crafted binary.

The weakness was shared 07/27/2022 as 2738. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-34612 since 06/26/2022. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2022-37564). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
