A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in YaBB 1.5.2 (Forum Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file SSI.php. The manipulation of the argument sourcedir with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. SSI.php in YaBB SE 1.5.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code by modifying the sourcedir parameter to reference a URL on a remote web server that contains the code.
The weakness was disclosed 06/16/2003 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-0275 since 05/09/2003. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
