PostgreSQL 8.1.0 through 8.1.2 allows authenticated database users to gain additional privileges via "knowledge of the backend protocol" using a crafted SET ROLE to other database users, a different vulnerability than CVE-2006-0678.
The bug was discovered 02/15/2006. The weakness was released 02/15/2006 by Akio Ishida (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.postgresql.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0553 since 02/05/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication.
