A vulnerability was found in OpenBSD OpenSSH 3.6.1 (Connectivity Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Reverse Mapping Handler. OpenSSH 3.6.1 and earlier, when restricting host access by numeric IP addresses and with VerifyReverseMapping disabled, allows remote attackers to bypass "from=" and "user@host" address restrictions by connecting to a host from a system whose reverse DNS hostname contains the numeric IP address.
The weakness was published 07/02/2003 by Mike as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0386 since 06/09/2003. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
