A vulnerability classified as critical was found in ST FTP Service 3.0. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing. The manipulation of the argument CD with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in ST FTP Service 3.0 allows remote attackers to list arbitrary directories via a CD command with a DoS drive letter argument (e.g. E:).
The weakness was presented 07/02/2003 by RusH security team with RusH Security Team as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-0392 since 06/10/2003. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
