Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Google Go up to 1.17.11/1.18.3 (Programming Language Software). Affected is the function Unmarshal of the component encoding-xml. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a recursion vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-674. The product does not properly control the amount of recursion that takes place, consuming excessive resources, such as allocated memory or the program stack. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Uncontrolled recursion in Unmarshal in encoding/xml before Go 1.17.12 and Go 1.18.4 allows an attacker to cause a panic due to stack exhaustion via unmarshalling an XML document into a Go struct which has a nested field that uses the 'any' field tag.
The weakness was released 08/11/2022. The advisory is shared for download at go.dev. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-30633 since 05/12/2022. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
