A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in PHP 4.3.1 (Programming Language Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file index.php of the component Transparent SID Support Capability. The manipulation of the argument PHPSESSID with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the transparent SID support capability for PHP before 4.3.2 (session.use_trans_sid) allows remote attackers to insert arbitrary script via the PHPSESSID parameter.
The bug was discovered 02/19/2003. The weakness was released 02/20/2003 by Sverre H. Huseby (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-0442 since 06/18/2003. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
