A vulnerability was found in Eternal Terminal up to 6.1.x and classified as critical. This issue affects the function PipeSocketHandler::listen. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. A privilege escalation to root exists in Eternal Terminal prior to version 6.2.0. This is due to the combination of a race condition, buffer overflow, and logic bug all in PipeSocketHandler::listen().
The weakness was disclosed 08/16/2022 as GHSA-hxg8-4r3q-p9rv. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-24949 since 02/11/2022. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
