Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Qualys Cloud Agent up to 4.8.0-49 on Linux (Security Testing Software). This affects an unknown code of the file /var/log/qualys/qualys-cloud-agent-scan.log. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a log file vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-532. Information written to log files can be of a sensitive nature and give valuable guidance to an attacker or expose sensitive user information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

** DISPUTED ** An issue was discovered in Qualys Cloud Agent 4.8.0-49. It writes "ps auxwwe" output to the /var/log/qualys/qualys-cloud-agent-scan.log file. This may, for example, unexpectedly write credentials (from environment variables) to disk in cleartext. NOTE: there are no common circumstances in which qualys-cloud-agent-scan.log can be read by a user other than root; however, the file contents could be exposed through site-specific operational practices. The vendor does NOT characterize this as a vulnerability because the ps data collection is intentional, and would only capture credentials on a machine that was already affected by the CWE-214 weakness.

The weakness was released 08/18/2022. The advisory is shared at blog.qualys.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-29550 since 04/21/2022. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:var/log/qualys/qualys-cloud-agent-scan.log it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
