Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apache Flume up to 1.10.0. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component JMS Source Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Apache Flume versions 1.4.0 through 1.10.0 are vulnerable to a remote code execution (RCE) attack when a configuration uses a JMS Source with a JNDI LDAP data source URI when an attacker has control of the target LDAP server. This issue is fixed by limiting JNDI to allow only the use of the java protocol or no protocol.
The weakness was released 08/21/2022. The advisory is shared for download at issues.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-34916 since 07/04/2022. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1055.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
