Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in libvirt (Virtualization Software) (unknown version). Affected is the function qemuMonitorUnregister of the component virConnectGetAllDomainStats API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

A use-after-free flaw was found in libvirt. The qemuMonitorUnregister() function in qemuProcessHandleMonitorEOF is called using multiple threads without being adequately protected by a monitor lock. This flaw could be triggered by the virConnectGetAllDomainStats API when the guest is shutting down. An unprivileged client with a read-only connection could use this flaw to perform a denial of service attack by causing the libvirt daemon to crash.

The weakness was disclosed 08/24/2022 as 1ac703a7d0789e46833f4013a3876c2e3af18ec7. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2021-3975 since 11/18/2021. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
