Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apache HTTP Server up to 3.2.7 (Web Server). Affected is an unknown part of the component User Session Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in the FileSession object in Mod_python module 3.2.7 for Apache allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a crafted session cookie.
The weakness was disclosed 03/14/2006 with Apache Software Foundation (Website). The advisory is available at modpython.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-1095 since 03/09/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 3.2.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at httpd.apache.org.
