A vulnerability has been found in ISC BIND up to 9.19.4 (Domain Name Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. By spoofing the target resolver with responses that have a malformed EdDSA signature, an attacker can trigger a small memory leak. It is possible to gradually erode available memory to the point where named crashes for lack of resources.
The weakness was disclosed 09/21/2022. It is possible to read the advisory at kb.isc.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-38178 since 08/12/2022.
