Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in RabbitMQ (version unknown). This affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a random values vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-330. The product uses insufficiently random numbers or values in a security context that depends on unpredictable numbers. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
RabbitMQ is a multi-protocol messaging and streaming broker. In affected versions the shovel and federation plugins perform URI obfuscation in their worker (link) state. The encryption key used to encrypt the URI was seeded with a predictable secret. This means that in case of certain exceptions related to Shovel and Federation plugins, reasonably easily deobfuscatable data could appear in the node log. Patched versions correctly use a cluster-wide secret for that purpose. This issue has been addressed and Patched versions: `3.10.2`, `3.9.18`, `3.8.32` are available. Users unable to upgrade should disable the Shovel and Federation plugins.
The weakness was shared 10/06/2022 as GHSA-v9gv-xp36-jgj8 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-31008. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600.001 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234567 (RabbitMQ 3.8.x < 3.8.32 / 3.9.x < 3.9.18 / 3.10.x < 3.10.2 Predictable credential obfuscation), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (234567). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
