A vulnerability was found in Traefik up to 2.8.7/2.9.0-rc4 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component HTTP2 Connection Handler. Traefik (pronounced traffic) is a modern HTTP reverse proxy and load balancer that assists in deploying microservices. There is a potential vulnerability in Traefik managing HTTP/2 connections. A closing HTTP/2 server connection could hang forever because of a subsequent fatal error. This failure mode could be exploited to cause a denial of service. There has been a patch released in versions 2.8.8 and 2.9.0-rc5. There are currently no known workarounds.
The weakness was presented 10/11/2022 as GHSA-c6hx-pjc3-7fqr. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-39271 since 09/02/2022. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 2.8.8 or 2.9.0-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
