A vulnerability was found in Microsoft NET Framework up to 1.1 SP1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code of the component ilasm Handler. Buffer overflow in calloc.c in the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 ntdll.dll system library, when used by the ILDASM disassembler in the Microsoft .NET 1.0 and 1.1 SDK, might allow user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted .dll file with a large static method.
The weakness was released 03/27/2006 by Dinis Cruz and Kerem Kusmezer (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at owasp.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-1510 since 03/29/2006. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at windowsupdate.microsoft.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be establishing an alternative product.
