A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Atrium Mercur Mailserver up to 4.1 (Mail Server Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Base64 Decoder. Buffer overflow in the base64 decoder in MERCUR Mailserver 4.2 before SP3a allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long (1) AUTH command to the POP3 server or (2) AUTHENTICATE command to the IMAP server.
The bug was discovered 10/21/2003. The weakness was disclosed 10/21/2003 by Kostya Kortchinsky (Website). The advisory is available at secunia.com.
