A vulnerability was found in FreeBSD (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function fpathconf/lseek. Integer overflow in the f_count counter in FreeBSD before 4.2 through 5.0 allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via multiple calls to (1) fpathconf and (2) lseek, which do not properly decrement f_count through a call to fdrop.
The bug was discovered 01/06/2003. The weakness was released 12/31/2003 by Joost Pol (Website). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-1234 since 11/16/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
