A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF 4.4.0 (Image Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function _TIFFmemset of the file libtiff/tif_unix.c of the component TIFF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. LibTIFF 4.4.0 has an out-of-bounds write in _TIFFmemset in libtiff/tif_unix.c:340 when called from processCropSelections, tools/tiffcrop.c:7619, allowing attackers to cause a denial-of-service via a crafted tiff file. For users that compile libtiff from sources, the fix is available with commit 236b7191.
The weakness was released 10/21/2022 as 426. The advisory is available at gitlab.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-3626 since 10/21/2022. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
