A vulnerability was found in Muhammara up to 2.5.x. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component PDF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unchecked return value to null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-690. The product does not check for an error after calling a function that can return with a NULL pointer if the function fails, which leads to a resultant NULL pointer dereference. Muhammara is a node module with c/cpp bindings to modify PDF with js for node or electron (based/replacement on/of galkhana/hummusjs). The package muhammara before 2.6.0; all versions of package hummus are vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) when supplied with a maliciously crafted PDF file to be appended to another. This issue has been patched in 2.6.0 for muhammara and not at all for hummus. As a workaround, do not process files from untrusted sources.
The weakness was published 11/02/2022 as 293. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-39381 since 09/02/2022. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 2.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
