A vulnerability was found in VMware Spring Tools and VSCode Extension (affected version not known). It has been classified as critical. Spring Tools 4 for Eclipse version 4.16.0 and below as well as VSCode extensions such as Spring Boot Tools, Concourse CI Pipeline Editor, Bosh Editor and Cloudfoundry Manifest YML Support version 1.39.0 and below all use Snakeyaml library for YAML editing support. This library allows for some special syntax in the YAML that under certain circumstances allows for potentially harmful remote code execution by the attacker.
The weakness was released 11/05/2022. It is possible to read the advisory at tanzu.vmware.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-31691 since 05/25/2022. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
