A vulnerability was found in Apache HTTP Server up to 1.3.27 (Web Server). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component ETag Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Apache HTTP Server 1.3.22 through 1.3.27 on OpenBSD allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via (1) the ETag header, which reveals the inode number, or (2) multipart MIME boundary, which reveals child proccess IDs (PID).
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2003 with OpenBSD (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-1418 since 10/19/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82657 (SuSE 11.3 Security Update : apache2 (SAT Patch Number 10533)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167739 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for apache2 (SUSE-SU-2015:0689-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published 13 years after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
