Details
A vulnerability was found in SnakeYAML (affected version not known). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component YAML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Those using Snakeyaml to parse untrusted YAML files may be vulnerable to Denial of Service attacks (DOS). If the parser is running on user supplied input, an attacker may supply content that causes the parser to crash by stack overflow. This effect may support a denial of service attack.
The weakness was published 11/11/2022. The advisory is shared for download at bugs.chromium.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-41854 since 09/30/2022. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
