A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in ttCMS and ttForum 2.2 (Forum Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file news.php/install.php. The manipulation of the argument template/installdir with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple PHP remote file inclusion vulnerabilities in ttCMS 2.2 and ttForum allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via the (1) template parameter in News.php or (2) installdir parameter in install.php.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2003 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-1459 since 10/22/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:news.php/install.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11636 (ttCMS 2.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11295 (ttCMS / ttForum Absolute Path Disclosure Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 2150.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (12271), Exploit-DB (22578), Tenable (11636) and SecurityFocus (BID 7542†). The entries VDB-20506 and VDB-21376 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
