Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in s::can moni::tools up to 4.1. Affected is an unknown function of the component image-relocator Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
In s::can moni::tools in versions below 4.2 an unauthenticated attacker could get any file from the device by path traversal in the image-relocator module.
The weakness was published 11/16/2022. The advisory is shared for download at s-can.at. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2020-12508 since 04/30/2020. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
