Spring boot admins is an open source administrative user interface for management of spring boot applications. All users who run Spring Boot Admin Server, having enabled Notifiers (e.g. Teams-Notifier) and write access to environment variables via UI are affected. Users are advised to upgrade to the most recent releases of Spring Boot Admin 2.6.10 and 2.7.8 to resolve this issue. Users unable to upgrade may disable any notifier or disable write access (POST request) on `/env` actuator endpoint.
The weakness was presented 12/10/2022 as GHSA-w3x5-427h-wfq6. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-46166 since 11/28/2022. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 2.6.10 or 2.7.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c14c3ec12533f71f84de9ce3ce5ceb7991975f75 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
